Licked

Look out for blog posts of students reading their own versions of the endings to this story by Paul Jennings. The students quickly wrote and filmed their versions before I read the real ending to them.

A special thanks to Felicity for insisting she film me reading the real ending!

Emotive Language

WALT: Persuade

Part of persuading is appealing to the reader's / listener's / viewer's feelings. Here are some of the emotive words Room 20 are using to persuade the reader in our topic writing. We are trying to initiate a change in the ways we deal with rubbish.

What is your favourite emotive word on the whiteboard?
Can you think of any other emotive words to do with our topic?

Line tag is one of the quick games we play at fitness time. I like it because it develops strategy and teamwork, as well as being loads of fun!

Fractions With The Pacs

Check out this video! We were working out what we know and understand about fractions. The Pacs wrote fractions on a card and pegged them up on our number (washing) line. They did very well!

The BLOB!

IWB Brainstorm by Casey

Here are some of Room 20's favourite sentences from their BLOB writing!

Run! Josh is in, got you Katrina, lets get Brody! Got him. No you don’t. Watch out Teva. Oh damn they got me, quick we can get Rhys. Oh I missed him. Ahhh!!! A real blob. Watch out, he’s got a taser and a slime gun. Josh

“Hi I'm Bob the blob, I’ve been through lots of adventures, and at chapter one, you saw the beginning of the end of my journey. Now, lets see the Actual beginning below." Teva

The blob was chasing me. Then in the middle of my mind I thought LADS (life and death situation). Rhys

Once upon a time in a faraway land there was a class of penguins. The class number was 20. Amy

Oh oh! Here we go again I said to myself as the blob came my way. Luckily, it broke in half and gave me lots of room to run through. Jake

Fire the mortar at the miserable thing. Tyler

I like playing blob. It’s fun and sometimes it can be funny but not all the time. Charlotte

I run like I've not run before. Lachlan

As you dodge, step and scream you look back and your classmates are trying to get free. Half of your class are chasing you like a tiger. Parris

“Yay” Blob, my favourite game! Katrina

It’s a brilliant game!” I screamed and my mates said because the Brilliant Gribbles made it up man”. Seth

The time had come, it was me and some friends and we were the ones that hadn't been tagged yet. Hannah

I was a human target. Kharn

What should we do commander? Zeb

Oh no, it’s a matter of life and death, it is coming this way. I miss my mum, please no. Samuel

I did my extraordinary slide. Daniel

Squirm, wiggle the worm tries to escape from the evil Blobinator, but ‘AHHHHHHHH” he got me “help.” Now that I was touched I had the disease, I can not ever in my whole life be able to let go. Felicity

Bombs dropping and guns shooting. Jacob

It was heading for me, I swerved around and ran like the world was breaking behind me, trying to dodge all the people shouting and screaming, but sadly I got the disease and I couldn’t let go of the monster. Natasha

I was running, sidestepping past the Blob. Brody

Literature Circle

The video below is a snippet of The Droids in their Literature Circle. I am very impressed with how they discuss their book Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo.

Here is an extract from the audiobook:

Autumn

Last week we wrote Autumn poems. We were inspired by this poem about the sea by Laura:
Felicity reciting The Sea!
The Sea

The mist smudges out
Kapiti Island

The hills curve and rise
like loaves of bread

The sun sprinkles glitter
on the sea

The wind is writing
what it knows
in lines along the water

Laura Ranger
7 years

We self assessed and published our poems as leaves. Natasha, Felicity and Casey created a literal Tree of PRIDE to put poem leaves on.

As poetry is meant to be read aloud, the students have also been recording their poems for their blog posts. Here are the links (these will be updated):

Charlie and Lola Buddies

Charlie by Amy
On Thursday, our brilliant buddies Room 1 visited. We read Charlie and Lola books and listened to stories from this BBC website (it's on our reading Symbaloo). Then we had a go at drawing some sketches of Charlie and Lola together. It is always rewarding to see Room 20 and Room 1 learning together.

Rubbish

We brainstormed some knowledge and questions for rubbish using Wallwisher this afternoon. This is for our new integrated topic: WALT initiate change. You can click on the image to make it bigger or visit our wall.

I am very excited about what we might learn and do with this new topic!
