Walkie Talkie Advertising

Walkie Talkie Advertising from Kieren Moriarty on Vimeo.

Matilda has persuaded her audience!

I want to advertise my new walkie talkie toy before December so parents can buy them in time for Christmas.  I want to do it in the fairest, safest way.  You are my advertiser.  Can you help me decide if I should advertise on the internet or on TV?

WALT write a statement and back it up with evidence
(Success Criteria)
We must remember to:
  • Open with a statement about the issue you are addressing
  • State your position on the issue
  • Give at least three facts that are supported with evidence or examples
  • End with a summary- wrap up the main ideas you have been talking about.

Fruity Tooty Dolphins Advertising

A Dolphin Dive, A Fruity Surprise!
We have been working with our buddy classes Room 3 and 23 for Market Day. Our healthy product, Fruity Tooty Dolphins is going to be so popular. I have been taking a group who've been working on creating jingles and video advertisements. The way the older students have been working with the younger students has been fantastic. Below you can watch our quick first advert directed by Matilda and a short movie showing different parts of our awesome creativeness!

Room 21 in Journey Through The Legends

I used the Google app Pow Toon to create a video showcasing some photos Mrs Hill took of Room 21 in the production. Journey Through The Legends has been a huge success and really is a tribute to all the students and teachers of Nga Rakau Nui. Tu meke! Wonderful job putting it altogether, Miss Hill! We look forward to the final performance tonight!

A Friend...

A Friend from Kieren Moriarty on Vimeo.

This week's poem is our first for a long time. It has a strong message. We are so lucky when we have friends.

A Friend...
A friend is someone who borrows your ball
And returns it to you later in the day;
Who will lend their newest pens - and will play
Your games. Who’ll come around to your house
  and call
For you in rain as well as when it’s fine;
Who’ll listen to your secrets, share your fears,
lend a shoulder when your eyes are full of tears
And won’t divide things into ‘yours’ and ‘mine’.
A friend will peel the plaster gently off your cut
And a friend won’t say ‘Yuk!’. A friend laughs at your jokes
When others just go ‘Eh?’; who likes you but
Will tell you when you’re wrong; who strokes
Your favourite pet in spite of all the fleas -
Who knows your family but, when invited, says
  ‘Yes, please!’

Matariki from Kieren Moriarty on Vimeo.

Yesterday, Tōtara Hub enjoyed a day of Matariki workshops. A huge thank you to Yvette Hardaker and her amazing volunteers who made this day happen. Wow!

I was lucky enough to wander around the workshops and capture some of the learning action on video. The video above is part one, look out for part two soon!

Here is a Padlet which reflects Room 6's thoughts on what they learnt yesterday.

Energy Transfer Through Balls

Nga Rakau Nui have a rotation on Wednesday: Te Hui Nui. I get to take a science activity. After last week's experiment was an enjoyably messy failure, this week I decided to keep it simple.

This fun experiment is all about energy transfer. You could easily try it at home. I found it through Science Kids.

The young scientists videoed themselves conducting the experiment. Here are the results. Watch carefully, you might be amazed!

Planets, Stars and the Solar System

This is a great explanation of stars, planets and the solar system from the Science Learning Hub. You can watch their other videos exploring space here.

We are learning to explore, investigate, question and develop explanations.

Key Question for our inquiry:

How do stars in the universe have an impact on us?
