Drag Car Models

Today, George and Nasa-Jaye taught some children in the class how to make drag cars! First they taught Kayla and Mary, along with Liam and Jacob. Digi Leader Ben created a trailer to show the process. The next buddies to have a go were Ezra and Ben himself, along with Matilda and Maia. George and Nasa did a fantastic job and all the children had a lot of fun and got to create something that they are proud of. A special thank you to George for organising this opportunity and getting all the materials!

Here is Ben's exciting trailer:

Tribe Logos

Warriors
Blueberries: Champion logo!
Our Survivor Camp tribes had lots of fun, designing and creating their logos. It was great to see the creativity and teamwork. I think they have all designed logos which represent their tribes effectively. Congratulations to the Blueberries, who won our logo design challenge, after receiving the most votes, beating the Warriors by one vote.

Wonder: Ordinary?

Wonder by R.J. Palacio is not an ordinary book. I love it. I am looking forward to reading it as a shared reading with Room 6. We have twenty copies of the book from the library. The book trailer above does a good job of advertising the book. It is persuading the viewer to read it. We discovered that the words come from the first chapter, Ordinary.

Ordinary

I know I'm not an ordinary ten-year old kid. I mean, sure, I do ordinary things. I eat ice cream. I ride my bike. I play ball. I have an XBox. Stuff like that makes me ordinary. I guess. And I feel ordinary. Inside. But I know ordinary kids don't make other ordinary kids run away screaming in playgrounds. I know ordinary kids don't get stared at wherever they go.

New Trailer for Joey Pigza Swallowed The Key!

We have been reading the book Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key by Jack Gantos. It is a very special book because it is funny, moving and really makes you think. It also helps us understand the challenges that people can face.
Bree is a fantastic Joey Pigza!

Last week, Hannah, Bree, Olivia and Lily created a trailer about the book so far. I thought it was great and it really showed their creativity and how much they understood about key events in the story.

Room 16's India

Our India topic has been wonderful. We have been cooking Indian food with Inderpreet's and Hemani's mums. Imaan's mum has created real henna with most of the girls and also shared food. We have learnt about henna, the wonderful architecture and love story of the Taj Mahal, and really enjoyed the music and dance of Bollywood.

Poster by Elijah and Sam

In the last week of term, we are sharing our art in the Parkvale Arts Festival. If you scan our poster for the exhibition using the Aurasma augmented reality app, you will be able to watch our Bollywood trailer (which is also embedded below). Each class will have a poster featuring their own Aurasma for their arts display. All Room 16 students' Indian artworks also have a unique Aurasma video, which you will be able to scan at the art festival.

The Dead Harry Trailers

Room 16 finished reading Dead Harry by Ken Catran last week. We really enjoyed the story. It made us laugh and also gave us a little scare now and then. As the mystery unfolded, we liked predicting what might happen next.

Most of the class wanted to create trailers so we borrowed a few iPads and gave it go. Watch them below (if you dare!). Which trailer do you think is the best and why? How do they advertise the book and make you want to read it?

Remember to vote for your favourite trailer in the poll. (Poll closed - thank you. Trailer B won a very close vote.)

Trailer A: Joshua, Shivom, Jessica, Inderpreet and Ellis.

Trailer B: Hannah, Lily, Teva and Zeb. Guest starring Liam as Mr Dombroski and Ellis as the unknown criminal.

Trailer C:  Tyrone, Nikitah J, Emma and Crighton. Guest starring Zach as Mr Rudd.

Trailer D: Tracey, Cameron, Dylan and Olivia.

Trailer E: Samuel, Zach, Bree and Hemani. Guest starring Joshua as the unknown criminal, Lily as Primula, Ben as Mr Rudd and Teva as the spooky Elias Milton.

Hockey Tips

Hockey from Room16 Parkvale on Vimeo.

Today for P.E. we learnt and practised some hockey skills. It was our first lesson. Miss Hill, who is an excellent hockey coach, walked past so we asked her to give us some tips.

Here are Miss Hill's three tips to kickstart your hockey learning:

  1. Hold the stick at two o'clock so you can look ahead while you control the ball.
  2. Make a 9 shape with your stick and your bottom arm (right) and top arm (left).
  3. Bend your knees.
Zeb, created the trailer which shows some of the hockey fun!

Literacy Fun

Today the X-Men completed their trailer for the great story Kick-start. You can view it below and will be able to find it on their blogs. It is written by Simon Cooke and is a rugby story with a twist. "Lumbering giants... engaged in battle... over an egg?"

Kick Start from Kieren Moriarty on Vimeo.

Meanwhile the Justice League were making connections to their story The Trouble with Shadow by Julia Ballard. We used ShowMe (my favourite app at the moment) to record our connections on the iPad. The class could see it on screen thanks to our Apple TV. You can watch it below and find it on their blogs too.

Year 6's Road Adventure!

Year 6's Road Adventure from Kieren Moriarty on Vimeo.

Today's guest blogger is Felicity!

Today the year 6's went out on a biking road adventure. Above you can see a trailer that I made on the Ipad while the other year 6's were biking on the road. Since I hurt my back at school the other day I sadly had to sit out on biking. I was in a bit of a rush with choosing the theme because there were people coming and I had to film them. It shows them signalling and stopping at a give way sign. I hope that you will ENJOY:)

Rock n' Roll by Stefan

Rock N' Roll from Kieren Moriarty on Vimeo.

Today we have a guest blogger Stefan:

Today I created an Imovie on the Ipad for Rock n' Roll. The Super Hero like theme really summed up Rock n' Roll. Saving us from boredom! At Rock n' Roll we learnt the Gay Gordon, Rock n' Roll tap, The Red Hot Salsa, The Bus-stop and the Bunny Hop. My favourite is the Rock n' Roll tap!
