Making Connections

The Jedi Knights and Storm Troopers have been learning the reading strategy, making connections. This strategy helps us understand what we are reading by connecting the text to things that we know and are reminded of. We connect the text to our own lives (text to self), other texts (text to text:) and to the wider world (text to world).

Here are the first connections from both reading groups' new books, recorded on the interactive whiteboard.

  2. What great strategies for you to be using. I do this all the time when I am reading. I really like how your connections connect to the story strongly. The alien book was one of my favourites when I was in the senior school.

  3. You made it really clear that you understood this strategy. I use similar strategies when watching videos, are they they same?

    1. Thanks Shaun,

yes they are the same. We consider videos, movies and TV shows visual texts.

Often when we make text to text (TT) connections it is with visual texts.
