Fish and Chips have been around for a while now. They are very quiet members of Room 20 but relate very well to others. Fish is huge and truly the king of the tank. Chips is smaller and swerves around the tank like Conrad Smith. When you're quiet, you can hear them banging the pebbles against the glass.

If you come into Room 20, remember to say hello to Fish and Chips. Oh, and that other little fish. He or she hasn't got a name yet. I wonder what we should call it?

Beach Fives

I was lucky enough to take eight awesome Parkvale rugby players to the Beach Fives today. The weather came good and every team had a fabulous time.

There were four pools of four teams. We made it through our tough pool (containing Frimley, Irongate and Twyford) winning every game. That put us in the championship pool. After three closely fought games, Parkvale came out on top!

We were all very lucky to participate and contribute in such a fun tournament! Thank you Mr G and the boys!

Buddy Day

Last Friday we visited our buddy class, Room 1. Room 20 helped Room 1 with their maths and found out more information about their buddies. The children are so kind in the ways they help each other!

Reversing Subtraction (So You Can Add)

Fantastic independent work by Casey and Katherine! They used Google drawing to show their subtraction strategy on a number line.
67 - __ = 34 becomes
34 + __ = 67 (reversing)
34 + 30 = 64 , 64 + 3 = 67

34 + 33 = 67 or 67 - 33 = 34

WALT: create a timeline

I came across this idea by checking out the blog of Katrina, a university student who commented on Teva's blog.

Timetoast, it's a great website to create and share all sorts of timelines. We are going to have a go this week. All you need is an email address to set up an account. Here is the video tutorial which Katrina shared with me.
